Dear Friends,

I hope the first edition of our 2011 newsletter finds you happy and well. After all the snow events we've had, the recent mild temperatures only increases my anticipation for spring!

A new year is an optimum time to review our procedures and introduce promotions, all as an effort to do what we can to improve your HPI experience.

With that in mind, keep an eye on your email for promotion announcements, please note our revised cancellation policy, and if there's anything we can do to improve our service to you, we welcome your input.

All the best,
Sheryl

Stress-Related Baldness Breakthrough?

It’s interesting when researchers look for an answer for one malady and end up with surprising results that may cure another problem that wasn’t even on their radar!

The Early Show on CBS reported that UCLA researchers  who were studying prevention methods for stress-related stomach problems in men reached a completely different result during their testing with genetically-altered bald mice.  Three months after injecting the bald mice with a stress-blocking compound, all of the mice had grown a full head and back of hair!

So if this research leads to hair regrowth after controlling stress in men, can a cure for stress-related hair loss in women be far behind?

Q.  Recently a friend with thinning hair who I don't see very often noticed my hair looked thicker than the last time she saw me.  Since she saw me last, I've discreetly been wearing a hair addition.  While I love my new look, I wasn't comfortable revealing all the details to her, even though I've told her in the past I used hair fiber products to camoflage my thinning hair.  I want to help this girl out, but how do I do that without exposing my personal secret?

A.  That's a tough question! It's great that you've found something that works for you and I understand wanting to help someone else out while keeping your personal information to yourself.  Generally, when compliments are offered about your hair, thank them kindly and go about your business; but if someone who knew you earlier asked more specific questions about your hair, you might suggest the name of a place you've "heard" that may offer options to them during a consultation. For instance, HPI is very confidential with our client information and we do not disclose any information or even acknowledge someone is a client unless they have given us written consent.  Many women will talk privately with the person telling them their little "SECRET" but if you do not feel comfortable doing that, then try the suggestion above. I hope this helps balance your disclosure dilemma with your generous urge to help a fellow female with hairloss concerns.

Personalizing Cancer Treatments
 Through Genetics
I’ve heard of a test that makes the treatment of breast and colon cancer in women much more personalized.  It’s called Oncotype DX and this test can provide physicians with genetic information regarding a tumor which helps to identify the best treatment options on a more personal level.
To read more about this test, visit the Oncotype DX website.

Sharing Her HPI Experience
“Losing my hair because of chemotherapy treatment was a distressing experience so, in order to keep up self-confidence and avoid awkward questions, especially at work, I wanted to keep my appearance as “normal” as possible.  Investing in a quality hair piece that would see me through treatments, and until my natural hair grows back, was very important to me.  Sheryl did an amazing job, coloring my new hair piece, so that it looked incredibly like my original style.  No on can believe I’m actually wearing a wig, it looks so natural!  The staff at HPI are caring and understanding—I am just thrilled with the outcome.”  F.R.

 CONSULTATION TIP:
