Margie's Story
We are all guilty
of being our own
worst critic when it
comes to judging our
physical features.
It’s during the most
innocent of
situations that true
reality slaps our
face and we are
forced to address an
issue we
consistently denied
exists, while
accepted by those
closest to us as
they lovingly
overlook our
physical flaws.
This scenario
is especially true
when it involves
female hair loss. I
want to share
Margie's testimony,
which is a prime
example of how a
comment that
was meant to be
encouraging, however
misguided, was
actually the key to
forcing her to face
her hairloss
problem.

the best

blocker and
sodium laurel
sulfate free
shampoo.

Q.
I hear about 'DHT'
a lot these
days.
What is DHT and
how is it associated
with hair loss?
A.
DHT is an
abbreviation for
Dihydrotestosterone,
which is a
metabolite created
by the body when
testosterone is
combined with an
enzyme, 5 alpha
reductase. When DHT
reaches the hair
follicles through
the bloodstream, it
usually prevents
proteins, vitamins &
minerals from
reaching the
follicles to provide
the needed
nourishment to the
hair. Therefore,
the hair follicles
may reproduce at a
slower rate which
shortens the growing
phase of the hair
follicle or
lengthens it's
resting stage. DHT
can also cause the
hair follicle to
shrink in size,
making the hair
finer and smaller.
This process is
called
miniaturization and
eventually leads to
the hair falling
out. Men and women
who experience hair
loss are usually
those who are
genetically
predisposed to
producing more DHT
than others. So
it's important to
block the synthesis
of DHT at a
molecular level to
curb hair loss in
men and women.

3D Mammograms -
Wave of the Future?
The 3-D mammogram
recently done at
Massachusetts
General Hospital is
the most
technologically
advanced tool used
to detect breast
cancer. If all goes
well with current
studies, 3D
mammograms may
become the new
standard. Read more

Tight
Hairstyles &
Overprocessing Can Lead
to Traction Alopecia
Although traction
alopecia is more
likely to affect
African-American
women and men who
wear their hair in
tightly-pulled
styles such as
braids, it can cause
hairloss to anyone
wearing a hairstyle
that's pulled
tightly, such as
ponytails, buns
or braids, over an
extended period of
time. Hair
restoration centers
are seeing an
increasing amount of
young people
suffering from hair
loss as a result
from traction
alopecia damage
after wearing such
popular styles over
a long period of
time.
Traction
alopecia can also be
caused by excessive
chemical processing
of the hair, such as
through dyes,
straighteners and
perms. The chemical
treatments can
weaken the hair
possibly causing
heavy fall
out during combing
or brushing.
Traction
alopecia
generally causes
hair loss to the
frontal and temporal
areas of the scalp.
If it is
discovered in its
early stages, the
condition will
eventually heal
itself after
discontinuing
the tight
hairstyle.
However, if left
unattended, the hair
follicle can become
permanently damaged
causing irreparable
hair loss.
AFTER LASER THERAPY
Many of our
laser light
therapy clients
are experiencing
great results as
you can see from
the above
photos. Results
are solely based
on an
individual's
reaction to
laser and aren't
guaranteed, but
we'd be glad to
discuss if this
is a suitable
option for you
during a free
consultation and
evaluation.
